For new and renewing groups, effective on or after September 1, 2012, we are implementing new requirements for members enrolled in Small Group Anthem Blue Cross or Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company plans or policies to be eligible for Medicare primary rates. For renewing groups, this change will go into effect on the group’s renewal anniversary on or after September 1, 2012.
Members in groups under 20 employees must now show proof of both Medicare Parts A and B coverage (copy of Medicare ID Card) no later than 30 days after the group’s renewal date. For renewing groups, notice of this requirement will be provided at least 60 days prior to the group’s renewal date. If proof of Medicare Parts A and B coverage is not provided within the specified time frames, then the Medicare secondary rates will apply.
To view rates, visit Anthem's Easy Renew website at anthem.com/easyrenew. There, select either Employee Elect/Employee Choice or BeneFits renewal materials (depending on the group's current portfolio).
For more details about this process and how it may affect your client(s), please take a look at the attached group administrator letter that is being mailed out. Once the letter is received by the group administrator, he or she will need to reach out to affected members to obtain the required proof of Medicare coverage.
