A U.S. Census Bureau report released last week shows the number of uninsured has declined for the first time since 2007, a drop attributed in part to the Affordable Care Act requirement expanding coverage for dependent children up to age 26.
Other highlights include:
Illinois still wrestles with an essential health benefits package but has announced a likely default benchmark plan.
Michigan’s governor has proposed Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan no longer be carrier of last resort and instead become a nonprofit mutual insurance company.
Recommended options for funding an insurance exchange in Washington state are before the legislature.
