House Committee Votes to Repeal Medical Device Excise Tax

The House Ways and Means Committee voted to repeal the health reform law’s excise tax on medical devices; the committee also voted to lift the law’s restrictions on using health savings accounts to pay for over-the-counter drugs.

Other highlights include:

  • A number of health reform bills continue to move through the California legislature despite the high price tag attached to some bills.
  • The Illinois legislature adjourned after cutting $1.6 billion from Medicaid but failing to adopt true pension reform.
  • Kansas will implement a statewide health information exchange on July 1 allowing medical providers greater ability to share and search for medical records.
  • The Massachusetts legislature is set to take up this week provider-payment-reform legislation.
