Beginning January 1, 2016, all California Small Group plans that meet Affordable Care Act (ACA or health care reform law) rules will utilize the Anthem Blue Cross Select Drug List. This change will affect some Small Group employers that offered products using Anthem’s National Drug List in 2015. Anthem will send letters to the impacted members, advising them that it's important to review the new drug list. Impacted members are those who filled prescriptions in the past six months for a drug not covered on the Select Drug List.
Notices in renewal package
All California Small Group members also will get a notice from their employers, as part of their annual renewal package, informing them about this potential change, if their pharmacy benefit used the National Drug List for 2015. Below are samples of these notifications:

The letter tells members about the drug list change and advises them to check the drug list to see if their medications will be covered on the Select Drug List. Here's a sample of that member letter.
Members should talk to their doctors and review the medications on the drug list to see if another option is available. If no alternative drug is available, their doctor can contact Anthem’s pharmacy benefit manager, Express Scripts (ESI), and ask for an exception review on behalf of the member.
