News & Updates
Anthem Blue Cross knows many of you have questions about their proposed March 1, 2010 rates. They want to make sure you have the latest information, so you can best assist your existing and prospective clients.
To recap, in February Anthem Blue Cross notified you about our agreement with the California Department of Insurance to postpone their March 1, 2010 rates to May 1, 2010. To avoid confusion, they also delayed implementing the rate increases for Individual health plans offered by Anthem Blue Cross. They are writing to you today to notify you that they are not adjusting their rates on May 1, 2010. They will notify you in advance of any future change in rates. Also, they will provide your clients a 30-day notification of any future rate adjustments.
How this will affect your new clients
Your new clients who are enrolled on or before May 31, 2010 in any of the plans originally scheduled for a March 1, 2010 rate adjustment* will receive 2009 rates. Rates will remain in effect until the first of their enrollment month in 2011, for example until May 1, 2011 for original effective dates in May 2010.
How this will affect your existing clients
Your clients with March 1, April 1, or May 1, 2010 renewal dates will continue paying their current premium until further notice. All your affected clients will receive their May bills with current premium rates and will have 30 days to submit payment.
You can find historical and updated information on the March 1, 2010 Rate Action Postponement page of the agent website at anthem.com/ca. The 2009 Agent Rate Guide is posted there, as well, for your convenience. Anthem Blue Cross will share additional information with you as soon as it's available.
Thank you for your continued support and sales efforts in helping Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company and Anthem Blue Cross keep more Californians covered.
