The transaction with Express Scripts to acquire Anthem's parent company's NextRx subsidiaries has now been finalized. Beginning March 1, 2010, Anthem Blue Cross expect clients to start migrating to the Express Scripts pharmacy operating platform. The migration schedule will be based on health plan system.
When your client's organization is scheduled for migration.
Express Scripts will manage the transition with Anthem's support. Extensive pre-testing will take place to help ensure both NextRx and Express Scripts are ready for a smooth transition of accounts.
Express Scripts will begin processing prescription drug claims on its platform once accounts have been migrated. Anthem will continue managing your prescription drug programs, along with a dedicated account service team that includes pharmacy experts.
Same Anthem name. Same great service.
The 10-year agreement with Express Scripts to operate as Anthem's pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) offers an enhanced level of service, quality and value. Customers and members will gain the advantage of best-in-class programs from both companies.
- Anthem will continue managing benefit designs and Express Scripts will implement those offerings. Benefit designs will not change.
- Additionally, Anthem will control the formulary, data analytics, disease management and clinical pharmacy programs.
- There will continue to be one implementation team, one eligibility feed, one service contact and one reporting strategy.
- Members will keep their existing ID card, customer service numbers, formulary and edits.
Mail service and specialty customers may notice a change in their prescription label and return address. They may also receive automated phone calls from Express Scripts. Although minimal changes are expected to Anthem's retail pharmacy network beginning at transaction close, Anthem expects members will still have access to nearly 60,000 pharmacies throughout the United States. Those members whose current pharmacy will not be in the network will be sent a letter making them aware of this change and providing information about the three closest participating pharmacies in their area.
Express Scripts will lead operations related to the pharmacy business. Customers and members will gain the advantage of best-in-class programs from both organizations. More information on the transition will follow as it becomes available.
