Network: Anaheim General Hospital

Jun 02, 2009

Anthem Blue Cross (“Anthem”) has been informed that Anaheim General Hospital is no longer accredited through the Joint Commission. Accreditation is a condition of hospital eligibility for contracting status with Anthem Blue Cross. In order to ensure members have access to high quality accredited facilities, Anthem decided to terminate its contract with Anaheim General Hospital effective June 1, 2009. Anaheim General Hospital did not appeal the decision.

The Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) approved Anthem's transition plan and as required by state law and regulations applicable to health care service plans licensed by the DMHC, Anthem mailed letters to fully-insured PPO members enrolled in a DMHC-regulated health plan who reside within a 15-mile radius of Anaheim General Hospital. Additionally, letters were sent to PPO physicians and HMO Medical Groups with admitting privileges at Anaheim General Hospital as well as clients affiliated with the members who were notified and related agents.
