Official Grace Period if Premium Payments are Late

For years, Anthem Blue Cross has been giving group customers a grace period of about 30 days to pay their premiums. Anthem does not terminate coverage for late payments, as long as the customer pays within that grace period.

California Assembly Bill 2470 (AB 2470) requires Anthem Blue Cross to provide at least a 30-day grace period and notify their customers of this grace period in writing, which they're happy to do. They want to give you a heads up in case your clients receive a letter and come to you with questions.

As a group's deadline approaches, if they have not yet paid their premium, Anthem will send them a letter telling them about the 30-day grace period. Click on the links below to see the sample letters.
