Pending Period Change for Life & Disability

Anthem is making the following changes to bring their Evidence of Insurability (EOI) practices in line with industry standards:

Starting May 20, 2016, applicants who provide incomplete Evidence of Insurability or Insurability Information Request forms will have 14 days to respond from the date of Anthem's letter, which tells them what additional information they need. When they require a paramedical exam and when they request copies of medical records, members will have 30 days to respond.

In the past, Anthem has sent an additional letter at the end of 45 days to tell the member the file was closed. Now, the initial letter they send will tell them the file will be closed after 14 days, if they do not receive a response. Anthem expects the shorter response period will lead to fewer lapsed applications.
