Jan 05, 2016

City and County of San Francisco - Office of Labor Standards Enforcement
January 1, 2016

Please note the following updates and changes to San Francisco's labor law requirements that take effect January 1, 2016.

1. Increase in Health Care Security Ordinance (HCSO) rates. As of January 1, 2016 the health care expenditure rate for large businesses (100 or more employees total) will be $2.53 per hour, and the rate for medium-sized businesses (20-99 employees total) will be $1.68 per hour.

2. New HCSO Required Notice. A new 2016 Official Notice for the HCSO is now available. You can download the PDF and print (note that the Notice is 8.5" x 14"). You may also receive a copy in the mail. The Notice must be posted at each workplace in San Francisco in a location where employees can read it easily.

3. Increase in the HCSO Irrevocable Spending Requirement. For 2016, at least eighty percent (80%) of the required amount of Health Care Expenditures for each Covered Employee must be made as Irrevocable Expenditures.  See the HCSO website for more information.

4. New Paid Sick Leave Ordinance FAQs
San Francisco recently released Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on how the requirements of the San Francisco Paid Sick Leave Ordinance harmonize with the State of California’s new paid sick leave law. Visit www.sfgov.org/olse/pslo for more information.
