 Rate Action


UnitedHealthcare Small Group has announced rate adjustments for effective dates February 1, 2011 through April 30, 2011.

Average statewide rates for new business are:

  • An approximate 2% increase for PPO.
  • No measurable rate change for HMO product. See following averages by area:
  • Alameda, Marin, San Francisco & San Mateo Counties
    • Up to a 2% decrease for HMO;
    • 3.6% increase for PPO/HSA
  • Fresno County
    • Rate pass for HMO;
    • 3% increase PPO/HSA
  • Sacramento Area:
    • Up to a 2% decrease for HMO;
    • Rate pass for PPO/HSA

Average statewide increases for renewing business are:
  • An approximate 13% increase for PPO
  • An approximate 7% increase for HMO

Region Changes - UHC Only



  • San Diego County moved from Region 2 to Region 8.
  • Alameda, Marin, Napa, Nevada, San Francisco, San Mateo ,Santa Cruz, Sonoma ,and Yolo Counties moved from Region 6 to Region 2.
  • Contra Costa, ElDorado, Merced, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties moved from Region 8 to Region 6.

Plan Changes


New Choice Plus Plan:
  • Choice Plus Balanced Value 40/5000/70% (Plan Code J3-U)
    • Per-occurrence deductible of $500 for outpatient surgery.
    • Per-occurrence deductible of $1,000 for inpatient hospital services.
HMO Plans:
  • Substance Use Disorder supplemental coverage, offered with HMO plans through an arrangement with U.S. Behavioral Health Plan.
