Aetna COVID-19 Vaccine Update

Now that the news is out about an imminent COVID-19 vaccine, Aetna wanted to share some additional information with you and your clients. CVS Health® will be part of this next phase as one of the distribution partners for administering the vaccine.

As part of CVS Health, Aetna® is staying close to the latest vaccine developments.

What Aetna knows today

Aetna expects that vaccine distribution will occur in phases, beginning with high-risk health workers, first responders and older adults living in long-term care facilities. It is expected to take many months to vaccinate the entire U.S. population.

While it’s not yet certain when vaccinations will begin, there will be no cost to Aetna members to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. An email has been shared with small group Aetna plan sponsors sharing policy coverage information; refer to this document.

What Aetna is doing to get ready

CVS Health was one of the companies chosen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to play a key role in COVID-19 vaccine administration. All 10,000 CVS Pharmacy® stores nationwide are being readied to administer COVID-19 vaccines, including training their health care professionals and securing all needed equipment to handle and store the vaccines. Aetna will work with CVS Pharmacy stores and other vaccine administrators to offer members safe and timely access to vaccines.

Lastly, for as long as it’s needed, COVID-19 testing will continue to be available from many network providers, including MinuteClinic® locations at CVS Pharmacy stores. To date, MinuteClinic locations have administered millions of COVID-19 tests.

Going forward, Aetna will have more specific information for you — including when the vaccine will be available to you and your clients. Aetna is committed to communicating frequently to share key updates, every step of the way.
