Anthem Expanding Cafeteria Plan Enrollment Options

Anthem remains committed to expanding access to care and helping to ease the financial burdens created by COVID-19. As part of that commitment, Anthem is adding another Special Enrollment Period and extending the benefit buy-down period for Section 125 plans, also called Cafeteria plans. In addition, they’re relaxing eligibility requirements for employees laid-off or furloughed due to COVID-19.

Fully Insured and self-funded Small and Large Groups can choose to offer a Special Enrollment Period for employees who did not select any benefits during Open Enrollment. This period will end on August 1, 2020, and does not include Anthem Life and Disability plans.

Employees who currently have benefits can switch to a lower priced medical plan when one is offered for plans effective July 1, 2020, and August 1, 2020.

Anthem is also relaxing work requirements through September 30, 2020, for employees who were laid off, furloughed, or moved to part time as a result of COVID-19. They will remain eligible for their plans’ benefits.

These options are only available to groups offering Cafeteria plans.

Ensuring access to care is an important part of Anthem's relationship with their members.
