Anthem Large Group is Extending Their Dental PPE Reimbursement

Anthem began paying dentists a personal protective equipment (PPE) reimbursement as of June 15, 2020, to protect the health of members and minimize unexpected fees. Anthem pays $10 per dental patient, per visit, on dental PPO network claims for PPE. Anthem is extending the reimbursement from October 31 through December 31, 2020.

They will send self-funded clients who are currently participating in the reimbursement an email explaining that they’ll automatically be included in the PPE reimbursement extension unless they opt-out by November 13, 2020. Anthem will not contact self-funded clients who previously chose not to participate in the reimbursement. Fully Insured clients don’t need to take any action, and will automatically be included.

Please remind self-funded clients who are already participating in the reimbursement to respond by the deadline to avoid processing delays or unexpected member copays. 

Anthem does not expect any more extensions beyond December 31, 2020, unless there are regulatory mandates or a severe disruption to dental offices’ ability to obtain affordable PPE supplies.
