Health Net Exit Impact for CaliforniaChoice Groups
CaliforniaChoice announced how the Health Net exit will affect their new and renewing business. Important: CalChoice's timing is different and provides CalChoice groups more time than Health Net direct.
Health Net direct timeline:
- No new business effective immediately
- Groups can continue to renew through February 2027 but will have a short plan year
- Commercial group polices to end on February 28, 2027
CaliforniaChoice timeline:
- Health Net within CalChoice will be available for new and renewing groups through January 1, 2027 for a full 12-month plan year (a January 1, 2027 new or renewal group can keep Health Net within CalChoice through December 31, 2027)
- Health Net within CalChoice will not be available for new or renewal business for February 2027 renewal and beyond
Continuity through CalChoice
One of the greatest advantages of the CalChoice model is its multi-carrier platform. Following Health Net's departure, CalChoice will continue to offer six health plan options:
- Anthem Blue Cross
- Kaiser Permanente
- Sharp Health Plan
- Sutter Health Plan
- UnitedHealthcare
- Western Health Advantage
Because many physicians, hospitals, and medical groups participate with multiple carrier networks, members may be able to maintain access to their preferred providers even if they select a different health plan. B&P can assist with evaluating provider access and transition options.
Special Underwriting Promotion for Health Net Direct Groups
CalChoice is offering the following promotion to simplify the transition process for Health Net direct groups.
Eligible groups with 1 or more medically enrolled subscribers may submit their most recent Health Net invoice instead of a DE-9C. To qualify, groups must meet the following criteria:
- Health Net invoice must be fully reconciled
- A current pay stub is required for any subscriber not listed on the invoice
- Owners enrolling who are not listed on the invoice must provide a signed Owner/Partner Statement
- At least 51% of eligible employees must be located in California
- Owner‑only groups are not eligible
