Kaiser: Get Care and Support During the Southern California Wildfires

Kaiser Permanente is committed to the safety of their members, patients, staff, and community. They are closely monitoring the fires and high winds throughout Los Angeles County and will update their Care and Support page as the situation develops.

Facility updates

All Kaiser Permanente facilities in Southern California are open at this time. Facility access may change as the situation develops. Kaiser will contact you if your appointments are affected.

Care and prescriptions

Kaiser is working to make sure members get the information, support, and care they need to support their physical and mental health. Most of the usual care options can be accessed, including 24/7 virtual care and mail-order pharmacy.

24/7 care

Access timely, convenient care options that work best for you — from 24/7 phone and video appointments to quick online e-visits, urgent care, and other appointments.

For primary care, you can still access phone and video visits online or in the Kaiser Permanente app.

If you have questions about scheduled appointments, call 1-833-574-2273 (TTY 711).

If you’re a Kaiser Permanente member and can’t access Kaiser Permanente services because of the wildfires, you can get covered services from out-of-network providers for the usual cost of your care. If you believe you have an emergency medical condition, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. To request reimbursement for non–Kaiser Permanente care, log in to your kp.org account and submit a claim online.

Mental health support

For people who have lost homes, been evacuated, or had fires nearby, the emotional effects can be traumatic. People who already have mental health conditions are susceptible to increased symptoms due to the unstable environment.

Even if you don’t live in an area affected by wildfires, it’s possible to feel anxious or upset when hearing the devastating stories of people experiencing loss from fires. Kaiser is here for the mental health and wellness support you need.

Prescriptions

For general pharmacy information or to refill a prescription over the phone, please call 1-866-879-3408. If you need an urgent prescription or refill, you can go to any open Kaiser Permanente pharmacy. To find a pharmacy near you, search our list of doctors and locations.

If you’ve been evacuated and are not near a Kaiser Permanente pharmacy, you can fill your prescription at any local retail pharmacy near you. To have your prescription transferred, give the outside pharmacy your Kaiser Permanente member ID card or Medical Record Number. Also give them the number to our call center: 1-866-385-2644 where they can complete the transfer.

Kaiser is waiving same-day and next-day prescription delivery fees for members in areas that have been impacted by the fires. These areas include Baldwin Park, Los Angeles, Panorama City, South Bay, West Los Angeles, and Woodland Hills.

To get medications mailed to your permanent or temporary address, order your refills and prescriptions online or call our Southern California mail-order pharmacy at 1-866-206-2983. Standard shipping is always provided at no cost. Please note, it may take 3 to 5 days to deliver your prescriptions by mail.

Members in Southern California may also temporarily fill their prescriptions at any non–Kaiser Permanente pharmacy by showing their Kaiser Permanente ID card.

For more help, you can call Member Services about:

  • Your coverage.
  • How to redirect or replace your prescriptions.
  • Replacing a lost Kaiser Permanente ID card. You can also access your Kaiser Permanente ID on your mobile app.

Eyeglasses and contact lenses

Kaiser's vision centers will provide replacement eyeglasses or contact lenses to members affected by the wildfires. You can search our list of vision center locations near you to set up an appointment or contact Kaiser's eye care team online. Make sure to say that you’ve been affected by the wildfires in the comment box.

Replace lost medical equipment

If you need to replace a medical device, call the Southern California Durable Medical Equipment line at 1-855-805-7363 and let them know you’ve been affected by the wildfires.

How to stay healthy during wildfires

If you’re in an area affected by the current fires, it’s important to take extra precautions to stay healthy. It is recommended that you:

  • Stay indoors and keep your windows closed unless instructed otherwise.
  • Run an air conditioner. But keep the fresh-air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside.
  • Use fans in each room to help move the air in your house.
  • Follow local guidance to protect yourself from unhealthy air quality caused by smoke and ash.

If you have a respiratory condition, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), you should also:

  • Use controller steroid inhalers (like QVAR) as prescribed.
  • Use quick relief inhalers to help with shortness of breath.
  • If you have oxygen, use it if you have difficulty breathing.

Other safety resources:

  • Access emergency resources for wildfire-affected residents in Los Angeles.
  • For medical advice, you can call 1-833-574-2273 (TTY 711) or log in to your kp.org account to get care now. If you’re having trouble breathing or think you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital.
