Sexual Harassment Deadline Extended to 2021

Governor Gavin Newsom approved Senate Bill No. 778 on August 30, 2019. The bill extended the sexual harassment training deadline to January 1, 2021. The previous deadline was January 1, 2020, so this extension gives employers with 5 or more employees an extra year to complete the necessary training.*

The law requires an employer with 5 or more employees to provide at least 2 hours of training to all supervisory employees, and at least 1 hour of training to all nonsupervisory employees in California, every 2 years. New employees should receive their training within 6 months of their assumption of a position.

*Please note, according Section 12950.1 (h) (1), beginning in 2020, seasonal, temporary, or other employees hired to work less than 6 months should be provided training within 30 days of the hire date or 100 hours worked, whichever occurs first.
