UHC Specialty Updates: Voluntary Dental & Vision, STD & LTD Participation/Contribution, Life Conversion

UHC provided the following important updates on their Specialty products.

Voluntary Dental and Vision

Are you aware of UnitedHealthcare's participation requirements for voluntary dental and vision products?

• UHC requires only TWO employees to enroll in voluntary dental to offer it!
• UHC requires only ONE employee to enroll in voluntary vision to offer it!

Voluntary dental and vision are a great option for employers that do not have the budget for ancillary lines but still want to spruce up their benefits package! The employer is not required to contribute to the premium for these lines.

STD & LTD Participation and Contribution Requirements

Did you know that back injuries, cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses cause the majority of long-term absences for employees? It is important for employees to have short term and long-term disability coverage for when the unexpected may happen.

Participation Requirements:

• Non-Contributory: 100% employer paid and requires 100% employee participation
• Contributory: 25-99% employer paid and requires 50% eligible employee participation
• Voluntary: 0-24% employer paid and requires 25% eligible employee participation

*Contributory and Voluntary STD & LTD are only available for groups with 10 or more eligible employees.

*Consult with your UHC Account Executive on state guidelines and availability.

Conversion - Basic Life & Supplemental Life

Conversion is available with UnitedHealthcare Basic Life and Supplemental (voluntary) Life policies.

Conversion allows your employee (and their dependent) the opportunity to convert life insurance coverage to an individual whole life policy without submitting evidence of insurability. Conversion is available when life insurance reduces due to age, ends because your employee is no longer eligible or employed, or when the policy terminates. Note that if the policy terminates, there are terms and limits specified in the group policy that your employee must meet in order to convert their coverage.
